Is ignorance Bliss?
... When Charlie started becoming a "genius," he started developing more knowledge, becoming less ignorant educationally and socially, and started developing an understanding of his past. In the real world, people are aware of how people are, but he was new to this new understanding. He was hurt by the things he found out, and even more hurt when he realized his so called "friends" were not his friends after all. Charlie not knowing that people were making fun of him gave him the advantage to make new friends and feel like a part of their 'group.' He laughed along, which made him think he was funny. His colleagues laughing at him gave him some confidence until he realized they were making fun of him. This made his self-esteem go lower when his intelligence raised and he seen the truth. He felt stupid when he came to his senses and created his own prison by isolating himself. However, being ignorant could have its downfalls. Being unaware of things could cause solitude from the outside world, such as different cultures, customs, etc. It is not to healthy to be a hermit.
