...ing promoted to a higher status, Macbeth isn’t content with his newfound glory. Immediately upon receiving his new status, thoughts of being king and possible murder pervaded his mind. Tormented and restless by the thought, Macbeth decides to stand up to his own ambitions. Even though Macbeth wanted to become king, set his heart against killing hoping fate would crown himself king without his own hand. Although witches predictions alone weren’t enough to persuade Macbeth into murder, Macbeth had someone else pave his path to evil. Lady Macbeth, Macbeth’s wife, soon receives the word of the witches’ predictions in a letter. Already plotting her husband’s bloody task, Lady Macbeth worried about his ability to commit such a heartless act. Lady Macbeth knew her husband too well to know he wouldn’t commit the murder. Lady Macbeth knew the only way to get Macbeth to murder would be to convince him into the plot. Macbeth, already set against murder, is easily controlled and manipulated by Lady Macbeth into the act. Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth he is crazy for not acting and coaxes him into taking up the dagger. Lady Macbeth manipulates her husband who was very vulnerable by calling him unmanly and in doing so, succeeded in getting him to murder the king. In performing the act to become a man, Macbeth destroys all that is good in himself and steps over a level he cannot go back to. Macbeth, unable to see what the consequences of succumbing to his own ambition, decides to go along with murder. Macbeth is very scared and confused at this point and can’t believe he is actually going to murder King Duncan. Macbeth hallucinates before the murder and sees an imaginary dagger in his hand. The dagger Macbeth sees before killing Duncan symbolizes Macbeth’s desire to actually do the deed. The dagger, though fake and illusionary, is just as real to Macbeth and his ambition is creating this dagger in the mind along with the blood that covers it soon after. After all the drama, Macbeth finally murders and is in disbelief and shock of what he had done. His ambition pushed him off the edge of reason and caused him to actually murder the King. Though shaken by what he had done, Macbeth’s level of tolerance to such sights cause him to step deeper into the depths of evil, therefore let...
