In 1910 Japan took Korea by force as part of the Japanese Empire, because of this and their global position many Japanese people moved to Korea. After it’s surrender in1945 the country was divided into two North and South Korea. The North followed it’s communists neighbour China and powerful ally USSR by declaring itself a People’s Republic under the leader ship of the Workers’ Party of Korea with Kim Il Sung as their president. Modelling the government on the communist Soviet Union. After a national election an independent republic was declared in the South with a constitution very simular to the United States. On the 25th of June 1950 Kim Il Sung troops entered the South in an effort to create one country under a communist rule. The first and immediate reaction of the United Nations (UN) was to asked the North to withdraw their troops. With in two days the United Nations had voted to send assistance to South Korea within three weeks a peacekeeping force under the command of General Douglas MacArthur were ready to enter South Korea.
