In 1980, Namco created the game of Pac-Man, the most popular classic in the world. Also, Marufuku changed it name to Nintendo, and moved from Japan to America. In 1981, at the start of the Nintendo era, Nintendo released Donkey Kong. In 1985, Nintendo releases NES, and is an instant hit in America. In 1989, Nintendo gained the rights to Tetris, the most popular game Nintendo ever had. Also, Nintendo released the Gameboy, which had humongous sales. In 1990, Nintendo released Super Mario Bros. 3, the all time best selling video game ever. In 1991, Nintendo released the SNES, and it was a huge hit. In 1994, Nintendo released Donkey Kong Country, the best-selling game of that year. In 1995, Nintendo released the N64, and it started off with great sales, but it slowed down due to a lack of games. Also, Nintendo releases the system they will grow to regret, the Virtual Boy, and Sony released the Playstation. In 1996, Nintendo discontinues the Virtual Boy after less than a year of it being out. In 1997, both Sony and Nintendo lowered their prices to stay competitive. In 1998, Nintendo released the Gameboy Color. In 1999, Billy Mitchel achieved the highest possible score for Pac-Man, a total of 3,333,360 points! In 2000, Sony released the PS2. In 2001, Nintendo released the Gamecube and the Gameboy Advance, and Microsoft released the XBOX. In 2003, Nintendo released the Gameboy Advance SP. Later in 2004, Nintendo will release the Nintendo DS. Mario is the most famous character ever to be in a video game. Mario actually has been not only in one game, but in over 70 games!
