Knowledge Equals Great Power
...ntains 6.9 more grams of fat than a standard cheeseburger! If one knew about this, then one can make a wise choice of whether or not to eat this salad and knows that it is fattening. This is more preferable than being ignorant by keep eating the salad, thinking that he/she will lose weight, and ends up suing the fast food company. Another great example of knowledge is the topic of global warming. Global warming is no longer a matter of controversy. The 20th century recorded the highest temperatures in 1,000 years, with an average increase of 0.6°C. The last two decades were the hottest of the 1900s. Global warming is something that one cannot ignore, because it is happening even though it may not be clearly visible. Almost all the world’s glaciers have shrunk, while the thickness of the polar ice cap has decreased by 40 percent (from 3.1 to 1.8 meters) in 50 years. Everyone should be aware of the facts since global warming is life-threatening, especially to our children and grandchildren. Bush is hiding many important environmental facts from the people, making everyone ignorant of the world. This is why we all need to gain more knowledge, in order to defeat Bush and seek the truth that’s out there. What about the bombings done by U.S. soldiers in Fallujah and the 1600 pictures of U.S. soldiers torturing the Iraqi detainees? Bush says our mission in Iraq is almost over, but it’s clearly far from being accomplished. Only ignorant people can believe the things coming out of Bush’s mouth. The only cure for ignorance is knowledge. We certainly cannot turn our heads away from the war crimes the United States have committed, but we must face the ugly facts that make us feel ashamed of our country. Who ever said that there are no longer slaves? There are currently 27 million slaves on Earth. Some of those slaves are illegal immigrants who work in the strawberry fields of California. The strawberries we ea...
