single parents
...e needed in a child’s education initially for his school and then his college or university. This is when a child is going to have to take a loan or some type of financial aid, as the single parent families have less income, as mentioned in the survey before. Thus, again a child’s development would be hindered. Moreover, also when they have finished their degree and want to move out and make their own world, the parents are not able to help them as there are very less chances that they would have saved something from their income. “Financial insecurity is also an effect of poverty with 79% of single parents having no savings, compared to 41% of two parent families”.(GSALP) Hence it would be fair to say that a child’s development is obstructed in many ways due to some financial problems that single parent families are very prone to be facing. Besides a child’s developmental process is altered due to emotional difficulties he would face in his life. Losing one of the parents is a very traumatic event for any child as he loses one of the closest people to him/her whom he trusted. The child goes through lack of security due to the separation from one of the parents. He would come across many incidences that would depress him such as if he sees another kid with both his parents then he would feel depressed. Sometimes if the parents are divorced at a very small age, the child feels that he is responsible for all the happenings.(WPSU) This would lead into him losing his confidence in himself and affecting his adulthood. There are many evidences that prove that a person from single parent family has many different problems such as depression. These people also become very insecure as they have lost their loved one at a small age. As a result a child would not be able to trust people easily and normally becomes a loner when grows up. Due to being lonely they cannot take out their feelings and frustration leading into deep depression which might even lead into suicide. As Chuck Gregg mentions in his book “ Single Parenthood” that there are large numbers of suicide victims who come from single parent families. (SP) Some of them also take up crimes out of frustration. “More than one half of all youths incarcerated for criminal acts lived in one-parent families when they were children. (Children's Defense Fund)”. Due to the traumatic events, they are very easily caught up into emotional and behavioral problems, as suggested by one of the studies that stated that, ” the 10-11 year old male children living in single-parent families were found to have significantly more emotional and behavioral problems than 10-11 year old male children living in two-parent families.”(EP). Consequently, a child goes through rough emotional journey if he comes from a single parent household. Finally, a child is like a hot wax when he is young. He can be easily molded into different shapes and most of the times he is shaped by his experiences. Same happens with the brain of a little child. His surrounding effect a lot of his intellect. And specially losing one of the parents is a very traumatic experience which molds his brain in a very negative way. As said by an expert that intellectual power of a kid from single parent family is generally less as compared to that of a child from normal nuclear family.(LWF) There are many reasons and ways why this happens. Firstly, he does not get a good pre school program that would enhance his brain development and learning as the parent may not be able to afford it with one income. Also, similarly, a child would not get good education in a good institute due to high tuition fees and financial problems of his family. Another very big factor is that if a child comes from a nuclear family, he has an access to knowledge acquired by both the parents and ...
