While trying to meet their goals, their different methods were clearly revealed. Father Gabriel portrayed non-violence in this film. The form of non-violence used by Father Gabriel is protest. However, violence was also shown and used here. Captain Rodrigo Mendoza portrayed this defensive method. The Spanish and Portuguese were revealed as if they were extremely greedy and uncaring people. They wanted to control the beautiful mission community of San Carlos of the Guarani Indians. On top of this, they wanted to use these Indians as their slaves. The Guarani Indians had a controlled society. All the men, women, and children had imperative roles and expectations for the community. Most of the men built different items and worked each day. Women took care of the children and the household. Lastly, the children helped their parents whenever they needed to. The Guarani Indians had built a beautiful and magnificent mission, known as the mission of San Carlos. Because of this great mission, the Spanish and Portuguese wanted to control the Guarani Indian’s community. However, Rodrigo and the Guarani Indian’s did not allow for this to happen. Then, in the end of the film, the Spanish and Portuguese had burned the mission community of San Carlos. Numerous different perspectives were depicted in The Mission. One of these points of views is of the Spanish and Portuguese. They felt that they were superior to the Guarani Indians. Another point of view is of the Jesuit priest.
