The Vikings reason for leaving Vinland.

...king closer at the signs of the fever (which was known as a wasting sickness,) it looks more likely to be poison (arsenic). Thorstien and Gudrid go to a near by settlement where the same fever takes the lords wife and Thorstien. Again all signs point to a poison since they both died in the same manner and it was noted that Gudrid was very unhappy in her marriage. Thorstien the Black takes Gudrid home where she marries Thorfinn Thordsson. So it seems that Gudrid had already killed three people before going to Vinland.
