...’s character develops, it becomes easier to see that he is a caring person, and his writing the essay shows a new part of Holden. Although, primarily, Holden describes Stradlater as an extremely annoying person, and says that sometimes he does not even like him, writing the essay shows that Holden does actually care about Stradlater. Holden’s writing this essay is one of the only chances that the reader has received to see a positive side of Holden, and Holden’s positive perspective of anyone. Seeing that Holden usually sees the negative traits of a person, he takes for granted people’s presence in his life. Holden is used to receiving negative feedback, hence, his lack of academic performance and expulsion from previous (and his present) schools. Due to the lack of attention from his parents and losing Allie, Holden does not become very close and express his feelings. Writing this essay allows Holden to express feelings that he never got to tell his brother when Allie was alive. Holden makes it known to the reader that his parents are extremely uptight. Due to the fact that Holden’s parents are uptight, Holden’s negative, wild, reaction to his brother’s was not acceptable.
