One of the main principles of justice for Hammurabi was the whole idea of an eye for an eye; if a son was to hit his father, that son’s hand shall be cut off. Today, in Canada this form of justice does not exist because we try to rehabilitate offenders through jail time, probation or community service. A possible consequence of professional misconduct in Hammurabi’s Code included the loss of one’s profession or life. Canadian civil law provides a possibility for recovering damages by means of a lawsuit. The justice in this issue is that people are able to go to court and recover legal fees and a portion or all of what was lost due to professional wrongdoing.
