Cut marks were also found on bones from the usage of their tools. 3 ½ million years ago a volcano in Tanzania erupted while a small family of the hominid species were walking near by. The volcanoes ash that they walked in preserved their footprints for millions of years. The Laetoli footprints are actually hominid tracks, which is some of the oldest evidence showing upright or bipedal walking. An experiment was done comparing the Laetoli footprints with that of today’s humans and chimpanzees and it was found that the prints were more human like. With these prints specialists were able to estimate their height and how they walked. The wear patterns of teeth in human ancestors tell us roughly how old they were at death and what their diet was mainly made up of. It’s easy to determine the children’s age but to find out the age of adults using evidence from their teeth is not as accurate.
