Major Issues Dividing Americans (presidential election 2004)
...ding Americans in this years presidential election. There are key Issues that seem to be on every American mind. These issues include the US budget, the economy, homeland security, the war on Iraq/terror, and etc. Our president George W. Bush and his adversary John Kerry have very different plans and opinions on these matters. Social issues such as Abortion and Gay Marriage are debated among the two. Bush opposes abortion and says it should only be legal in very restricted cases such as rape, incest, or threat to a woman’s life he calls it a “brutal and violent practice.” Kerry on the other hand believes abortion should be legal. Bush also believes that gay marriage should be constitutionally outlawed. Key also opposes gay marriage but doesn’t believe in outlawing it. Bush believes that the budget should be handled by cutting the US deficit in half. He plans to do this by limiting alternative spending in programs outside defense and security and increasing security .5% next year. Kerry says he would achieve this same goal by repealing tax cuts for wealthier Americans. On the Economy Bush approves tax cuts, and the passing laws to make it easier for businesses to create jobs and give Medicare to their employees. Kerry seeks to improve the economy by creating “pay as you go” financing for new programs.
