Most Americans are against terrorism, and even some have negative feelings and opinions towards the Middle East. However, to truly have a correct and knowledgeable opinion, you need to know the past events between America and the Middle East. Furthermore, in my opinion, you must know a country’s history and how it came to be, in order to appreciate it as a homeland. Many people around the world simply dislike Americans due to the fact that they know very little about their own country. Therefore, the history of the United States is important because we need to know the history of where we live. Secondly, the history of the United States of America is important because it can teach us many lessons about how to interact with other nations and its peoples. For instance, racial and religious prejudice has occurred throughout history and even occurs today. An example of this would be how many Americans fear middle-eastern people and even profile all of them to be terrorists. This is an incorrect and unethical way of thinking, and if more attention could be paid towards history, it would not be as rampant. History could teach us not to be prejudice simply by displaying other types of prejudice that had occurred in the past. Centuries ago African Americans had been used as slaves, and most people felt there was nothing wrong with that idea. Yet today most people seem to think that what occurred was brutish and unthinkable. Today all races are thought to be equal. Therefore, it is only common sense to think that in several years from now the population of the world will either look down upon what is occurring today, or that the prejudice towards middle-eastern people will simply fade away. Finally, another reason as to why there is importance in the study of the history of the United States of America is that it will teach us the correct and incorrect way to govern a country, and what we can expect to happen in the future.
