This is a very important time and a memorable event for the church because it is truly the beginning of the church. This takes place on crowded street, and in my view this taking place in a crowded street means that they aren’t afraid to show that they are Christian and taking part in a Christian ceremony. They are saying I am a Christian and I don’t care what you are going to do to me for being one because I’m not going to hide it anymore, this is what I believe in and that is that. The painter tried to capture the importance of the giving of this key. It looks like when a king knights somebody, the king is instill some kind of power and importance in his knight and also thanking him for being loyal and committing acts of greatness. In a ways Jesus is doing the same with peter in this painting. Jesus is instilling power and leadership and the grace of God within him. All who are witnessing this respect and hold Peter’s judgments even higher than before because they know that this is the man that Jesus had chose him out of everyone.
