The holiday we know as Halloween has had many influences from many cultures over the centuries. Its history is like any other festival's history and is inspired through traditions that have transpired through ages from one generation to another. Each year, on the last night of October, millions of children across the United States dress up in costumes and take to the streets for a spooky dose of trick or treat fun. The only day of the year when we give free food to strangers and display carved vegetables on our front porches. When we patiently await knocks at the door from batmen, ballerinas, goblins, and ghosts. A holiday with a flavor all its own. An evening holy unto evil, death, and divination. Goblins on the doorsteps, phantoms in the air, owls on witches gateposts, jack-o-lanterns grinning back at one another, and bats against the moon.
