My Concert Experience
...etitions in Russia, by age 15 he made global stage debuts, performing solo in such places as carnegie hall. At 17 he became the youngest violinist to win the prostegious Reine Elizabeth Concours violin competition. Since then, Repin has performed solo with renowned orchestras all over the world and is extremely sought after. He performs on the magnificent Stradivarius ‘Ruby’ 1708, thanks to the Stradivarius Society of Chicago. Just before the concert began, I noticed that the layout of the orchestra was rather unusual. The 1st violins sat on the side stage opposite to that of the second violins, the celli and violas were inbetween them and the string bass were in the first violin section. I also noticed that there an unusualy large amount of string bass. I believe there were ten of them. This unique layout gave the orchestra a very interesting sound, which was actually very pleasant. Going back to the perforance, the orchestra opened with a surpise playing the American and Russian national anthem. I was surprised to see the number of Russians in the audience who got up to pledge allegiance to their country in their native tongue. I felt like I was in moscow. After this, Syphony No. 1 in D Major, Op. 25, “Classical”, by Sergei Prokofiev(1891-1953) was performed. This Syphony had 4 movements, an Allegro con brio, Larghetto, Gavotte and a Finale: Molte vivace. Prokofiev composed this syphony in 1917, the year of the Russian Revolution. I thought the performance of this peace was outstanding! I’ve heard it many times, but never like this. I didn’t hear one mistake. I suppose the rest of the audience shared the same oppinion, because the orchestra recieved a standing ovation. My favorite movement was the gavotte. It had a beautiful charming melody that was played by the 1st violins and then the cellos at the end. The second piece performed was Concerto No. 1 in D Major for Violin & Orchestra, Op.88 also composed by Prokofiev. It contained 3 movements including an Andatino, a Scherzo: Vivacissimo and a Moderato. This piece feature the violin solist vadim repin. He came out on the stage carrying his stradivarius wearing black sweatpants and a black long sleeve turtle neck shirt which I found surprisingly casual, being that the rest of the orchestra were wearing tuxedos. Despite the clothes his performance was truly amazing. He played with so much emotion and feeling. Everything was perfect, despite the great technical difficulties tha...
