Drinking and Driving
...lay the game the telephone rang. I answered it. I knew right away who it was. It was our mother’s best friend, Judy. Judy mentioned to me that she had became worried that our mother was late. I thought to myself our mother is never late! Judy explained to me that she was going to call the police to be safe and see if there had been an accident in the area. I soon found out that there had been an accident and our mother had been identified as being in the accident. Oh my I thought to myself!! How am I going to tell everyone. I was the second person to know. Where are we going to go? What are we going to do? Whats happening!! Those are the things that I thought. It was chaos. The biggest thing I had to do besides dealing with all of the other emotional feelings, was to tell my sister and my brother and my father that our mother, his wife, had been killed. I pulled my sister aside and sadly told her, Ashley, I love you very much but I have to tell you something that is probably going to make you mad, Ashley mom has been in a car accident. Her look was one that was kind of confusing, lost and scared. She accompanied me when I had to tell my brother, his expression was just that of my sisters. There had to be something I could do. I was their oldest brother. By this time our home had started to slowly fill with familiar faces that I don’t normally see all the time. There was one more thing that had to be done, I had to tell our father. I hesitantly picked up the phone and made the call that upset out father more than I have ever seen. He came home and we all gathered together outside so that we all could help each other focus. Everyone that was there tried to bring as much comfort as they had to offer. It seemed as if reality slowed down just like a bowling ball that has lost its momentum. My family and I were invited to stay at Judy’s home in Livonia so that we weren’t around anything that would upset us. Later on in the week, it came time for the burial. This ...
