Red observed Andy and what he did and how he acted. in this novel there are 2 main themes- determination and revenge. in the Shawshank Redemption Andys determination was first shown when a young offender was transferred to the prison. he had got friendly and had told Andy about one of his old cellmates who had killed a golf-pro and his girlfriend while they were sleeping but his girlfriends husband had got the blame and was 'doing time'.
