But one cannot forget the fact that we are all Canadians, no one province should have all these services available to them, while others have little. Canada should stand for equality. Some of the poorest regions of Canada have also been shown to have a low quality of life. A reason for this is the lack of services they are reciveing. In an article from the Edmonton Journel, it has been stated that "...societies with great income and social inequality, such as the United States and Great Britain, have far higher tolls of certain illnesses and far lower life-expectancy rates across all social classes than do more equiltable societies, whether rich or poor." What this is saying is countries with high income difference between social classes are more vulnerable to sickness due to poor medicare systems. The social differences could also lead to high tension between classes. More violence could start up due to the lower class feeling opressed to live poorly while the people in higher classes reap all the benefits of government services. The country needs to lower the difference between classes in order to stop actions like this from happening. Equalization can help to bring that down by dispersing money equally around the nation. The growth of provinces can only come from support from either money they are able to make themselves through industry and resources, or from the help of the government and other provinces. The Equalization payments should be kept in order until the country can figure a way to balance to differences between the regions and provinces in the country. It just is not fair that the richer provinces have most of the resources and industries that make them the most prosperous in Canada. The decline in growth of the better off provinces though, have provoked negative thoughts about the Universality system and the way it effects the country as a whole. The other perspective of the Universality is being against the whole idea of the well being of the common good. Some people feel that they should be fee to make the choices that they want, not having to take in the consideration about how it may affect others.
