Lord of the Flies

...the daily beatings that happened in its hellish confines. Also the scar is revealed as another place where you could expect proceedings that could take place in hell. This island is almost like a scene from the bible transported to life because as you can see, when Jack killed a pig, everything started to get more sadistic and aggressive, as if god as punishing the boys for killing one of his creatures. Soon after this incident took place Jack ended up leaving and headed to Castle Rock. This is like the same thing that happened in the bible when Eve ate the apple and God kicked her out because she refused to comply with the ten commandants. However, this is just one of the many types of symbolism associated with this novel. Along with the above symbol, this is another one of the many connected with this novel; another one that definitely stands out is Jack, who is revealed as the devil or Satan. This clearly shows that many people have a positive and a negative side to them. However, Jack is only one of the many people in this novel that symbolizes someone that has a big impact on this novel. Simon who is known as the “quiet person” has a big impact in this novel because he is portrayed as Jesus because he’s a quiet and nature loving person who has a huge understanding of mankind’s concealed evil nature and an unthinking urge to dominate mankind’s unnecessary illness. Simon’s attributes almost describe Jesus in a way because when we read the bible, Jesus was tempted to choose between two things, and this is almost what Simon was doing. Trying to choose between the road less traveled, follow the others and commit hideous crimes or take the road that everyone has been down and know the consequences of his actions and play it safe and this is almost what Jesus did in the novel.
