The Theme of Macbeth
... of all when they say “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter” (I, iii, 50). Macbeth takes it as he is going to become king. When he tells Lady Macbeth this she wants him to kill King Duncan so he becomes king. Later on the witches show Macbeth four apparitions. They lead Macbeth to do two things. One, he believes he is untouchable and no one can hurt him. This leads to his death. Secondly, they show him eight kings where the last one is Banquo with a mirror in his hand. The mirror is a symbol that Banquo’s blood line at some point will become king of Scotland. The consequence of this is Macbeth gets two people to kill Banquo and his son Fleance. Without the witches many of the consequences in Macbeth wouldn’t happen. Banquo’s murder has many consequences for Macbeth. The major consequence that happen cause of Banquo’s murder was Macbeth’s sight of Banquo’s ghost. That leads to some people starting to think Macbeth was going crazy. Macbeth starts to become paranoid about things and gets suspicious that Macduff isn’t there. He tells Lady Macbeth that he is going to get a spy in Macduff’s castle. Another consequence is that Fleance gets away from the murders. This lets the one apparition still able to become true. In the end Macbeth bad some bad choices and the murder of Banquo was one of them. The last choice that has a consequence is the murder of King Duncan.
