Regional champs
...emed like it took forever. When we arrived we noticed two teams were playing; vying for third place. We were there for only one reason, no matter what anyone else said, we wanted to win. I glanced over my shoulder and noticed the trophy; it was a beauty, standing tall like the Statue of Liberty. I tried to imagine how much pride and respect was held in that symbol. I redirected my attention from the trophy back to the big game ahead and started toward the field. As we began to warm-up; running and stretching, the adrenaline started to flow. I was pumped. In no time we were summoned to play. Beaverton Blaze was more than our opponent in this game, they were our rival. They were a large, solid team, adorned in orange battle suits and ready for action. We had played against them many times but had never defeated them. In our hearts and minds we knew that we would have to give it our all and leave everything out on the field. One of our advantages over them was that we had made our way up through the winner’s bracket so they had to beat us twice. As I stepped onto the field, it felt different somehow. More Intense. It was the same field we played on before, but this game meant more. I was first batter and from there the game flew by fairly quickly. A few catches in the field, a hit or two, and the game was over. The score; 4-1, their game. It was our turn. We had to win. No one would settle for second place. So now the real championship game would begin. I dug my foot into the powdered dirt of the batters box, squishing it down as if it were a bug.
