Analyzing A Tourism Experience
...tion of products and services, and the decision to return”, whereby it is important that the supply satisfies the demand (Yoon & Uysal, 2005, p 47). The supply thus for my tourism example would be the destination Duluth, Minnesota, what the destination has to offer that may be attractive to my family, how it is marketed to create our expectations and whether or not the vacation met our expectations. There must be supply therefore in order to create demand for tourism and thus this supply is the cause of tourist motivation which inevitably effects travel satisfaction and destination loyalty. The tourism destination loyalty model examines demand in tourism because in order to result in travel satisfaction there must be a demand of the supply. The level of satisfaction also results from whether or not the customer who is demanding the product or service will be loyal and become a repeat customer or create more demand by recommending the experience to others. Thus for example, the demand would be my families’ motivation to go to Duluth, and from our satisfaction level whether or not we returned or recommended a similar vacation to others. The model is thus based both on supply and demand because destination loyalty is based on travel satisfaction which is affected both by the tourist and the tourist provider. Push Motivation According to the destination loyalty model, push motivations are those motivations that are “related to the tourist’s desire” and “are more related to internal or emotional aspects” (Yoon & Uysal, 2005, p 46). My family vacation to Duluth, Minnesota thus resulted from various push motivations. As a family vacation our primary push motivation was family togetherness. Other push motivations for my tourism experience in Duluth included; excitement, escape, and relaxation. These push motivations help create expectations on which the level of satisfaction is based on. Pull Motivation Pull motivations are those motivations that are “associated with the attributes of the destination choices” and “are connected to external, situational, or cognitive aspects” (Yoon & Uysal, 2005, p 46). My family vacation to Duluth, Minnesota thus resulted from various pull motivations. Some of the pull motivations for travelling to Duluth were the entertainment, recreational, and shopping opportunities. These pull motivations also help create expectations on which the level of satisfaction is based on. Travel Satisfaction Travel satisfaction can be assessed in a number of ways but it is inevitably affected by the motivations in the first place. When expectations are created prior to pu...
