Rug Monsters - Very short story

...dn’t really have a choice. Once I agreed Dr. Lindberg then told me I would have teach this class for at least another two weeks, the teacher was being ‘removed’ as he put it. I didn’t ask why the teacher was being removed, but I didn’t really care, I didn’t even know the person. He said getting another teacher would take a little while. That mess ended and I finally was able to leave and go home. I was very cranky at that point. Then I remembered I had to confirm my doctor appointment by tonight six o clock, it was 5:44 when I realized this. Even though it was just a checkup, the appointment added more to the ‘to-do’ list. Things were not going good. Once I got in the door I abruptly collapsed onto my favorite reclining chair and exhaled deeply. I took off my fogged up glasses from its rested position on the bridge of my nose and placed them on the table beside me. I took my hand and brushed it throughout my bald-head. I unbuttoned my red vest and the collar to my undershirt. I was quite stressed. I sat there in my chair and just reflected for some time. I thought I saw some movement below my feet in which were extended on the seat. I looked down and saw what could only be described as a lump in my rug. I don’t know how else to describe it; it was a lump. I stared at it for a moment then it began to move. It slowly moved away from me. I got up out of my seat and began to lean towards it, but it kept moving away. As I began to move it did too. I ran it ran all the way to the edge of the carpet where it faded away. I looked around and didn’t see it. I pulled up the end of the rug and saw nothing under it. I was utterly dumbfounded and I didn’t know what to do. I kept it to myself. What else was I supposed to do? Here I am, a respected college professor. Nobody would believe me. Now I was pulling double duty at school and I was physically as well as mentally worn out. Two weeks passed when it happened again. I was reclined in my chair watching the news when I heard the same ruckus I had heard a couple weeks before. It was the same mysterious bump in the rug. I tried to pounce on it quickly this time. But when I landed on it, it faded away. I pulled up the rug again as fast as I could. To my dismay I found nothing. Once again I didn’t know what to do.
