...627. When his father returned to Arezzo Francesco remained alone in Florence. From 1657 to 1667 he was a member of the Academy of the Experiment, where the Galileian heritage continued. In 1666, two years prior to his experiment on spontaneous generation, Grand Duke Ferdinando appointed Redi as his First Physician and director of the Pharmacy. Following in his father’s footsteps. He put meat in one jar with no lid and meat in another jar with a lid. Flies later came onto the meat in the jar and laid maggots.
