...y". he reason i chose these artists is because they use two clearly different methods of creating and distrebuting their work. Firstly "Space Invader" creates his work using tiles arranged in a mozaic format, he travels the world placing these around cities. This is his global invasion, his way of taking back the streets - but why ? "Banksey" on the other hand uses stencil graffiti as a means to convey his clearly subversive and political take on todays society. Again the question why? will be asked, not only why do these artists use these mediums? but why they find it nessacery to leave these markings on the streets and in other public places. Different styles I will also be looking at some of the different styles of graffiti that are available to research, These are a few examples: - child graffiti (the crude nieve scrawlings that ask questions about sex and bodly functions etc) cave art graffiti (the oldest form there is, these paintings were used to let others know about possible danger or where food may be found), epigraphy (e.g. dave woz ere 9T9), meta graffiti (the council/private land owner covering up graffiti with blank paint), latrinia (toilet graffiti( the easiest was to distingwish between male and female graffiti) and american graffiti/tagging (the most well known form of graffiti. Psychological aspects The psychological aspects i intend on researching are as follows : - is graffiti a product of 'validation from peers'? in other words is it (in its early stages) a tool to increase 'cool' between teenagers going through their boundarie defining 'rights of passage'? do these people 'vandalise' the streets in order to feel as though they 'belong' to a certain culture/subculture?
