...a television show. Sarcasm is used frequently among friends, but this same sort of humor may not be accepted by the general public, and does not necessarily need to be. Public speaking is an entirely different style of speaking than private, and a broader public needs to be accounted for and respected. These two types of conversation are meant for a different audience, therefore cannot be expected to satisfy both worlds. Private lives are very important to every person in many ways. Without a group of friends to discuss feelings with, someone may go mad with anger, anxiety, and stress. Laughing, crying, or simply talking with a group of peers in private helps to relieve the everyday trials and tribulations of life. Many times, a group of adults will discuss “adult” topics unfit for a child to hear. These adults should have the right to discuss what they wish in private, without the public hearing of their conversations that may not be suitable for everyone else to hear. After all, they are adults! Many times, teenage girls will get together and gossip about the latest fashions and the cute boy in their English class. What gives anyone the right to take what is said in private and make it a public issue? The lives of these adults and teenage girls, and everyone for that matter, need to be respected and left at the diner where they are discussed. Have you ever told a joke to your pals that “might not be appropriate” for a public conversation? If you are nodding your head yes, then you are like many others who make these types of jokes knowing they are among friends. How many people talk to their friends as if they are making a public speech? Not many, and judgments cannot be passed on a person for that joke they made over lunch on Thursday.
