CHARACTER ANALYSIS: ALEX CROSS
... maniac known as The Weasel. Alex Cross is a big time D.C. police officer. His wife was kidnapped some time earlier when his family life was sickly twisted with his work. Since the incident Christine has been very skeptical of any work Alex is involved in. Since the beginning of the novel, when the son’s party is interrupted by an FBI agent Kyle Craig to inform Alex of a new case, the reader gets a sense that problems between Alex and Christine are bound to occur at any time. Before even talking to him, Alex finds Christine has left the party and taken their child. The new case is about a series of bank robberies committed by one who calls himself The Mastermind. Throughout the novel and throughout Alex’s hunt for the mysterious robber, he battles emotionally between several things. Beyond having to deal with this new case; Christine has left him and is skeptical about their relationship, his daughter Jannie is hospitalized, he is able to spend little time with his family, and the presence of another possible female entering Alex’s life.
