The Red-Scare took place in 1947 the House Un-American Activities Committee, or HUAC began a communists investigation (Seeing Red 97). Senator McCarthy and California senator and future president Richard M. Nixon along with others held a Conference to trial these "Hollywood 10." These 10 people ended up imprisoned and Many others were arrested (Georgakas 92). This was made very public because it was involved with the Hollywood entertainment system. The problem was the US was too worried about communist Russia pretty much taking over the world that officials would do anything to stop it, even accuse your own people. Everything these people said was different made even a worse government influence. The Crucible and The Red-Scare are very similar which probably influenced Miller and also contributed to his writing. They are very similar in that it started out small with few accusers and grew larger and larger with popularity. Every character in The Crucible compared to the Red-Scare.
