Over time as the copper sulfate molecules bond together, one may notice development in the solution. The unnatural growth at the bottom of the jar is the crystal formed from the solution. That was the start, as time goes on and the solution remains cool the crystal will continue to grow. Evaporation plays a an important role in this because as stated earlier, water is the universal solvent, when mixed into the solution it decreases the growth of the crystal. When the water evaporates, the crystal is able to grow in its natural form. When attempting to form a perfect crystal, it is important that one elevates the crystal by attaching to a string; or more preferably hair. This helps to prevent imperfect growth by reducing the chances of molecules not being able to bond together because of the sides of the jars restricting it to do so. The best environment for a crystal to grow is naturally in nature. These are where the most expensive crystals come from. When they are man made, the prices are dropped and many imperfections come along with the crystal. There are many different types and shapes of crystals out there today. One of the most exciting and magnificent diamond would happen to be the hope diamond. Legend has it that the hope diamond is cursed. It weighs 44.52 carats, and again said to be unlucky for its owner. It is named after a former owner, Henry Philip Hope. The Hope Diamond remains on permanent display in the Smithsonian Institution. This magnificent blue diamond is perhaps the most notorious gem in history. It is said to have even cursed many past owners of the diamond. This has led it to be believed that the diamond is cursed. The Hope was mined in India, and the 112-carat gem was brought to France in 1668. It was said that a curse rested on it, for a thief was reputed to have stolen the diamond from the eye of a statue of the Hindu goddess Sita, wife of Rama. After mined a list of victims has been created: Tavernier, who brought the gem from India to France, sold it to Louis XIV, who had it cut into a 67-carat heart-shaped stone and named it the Blue Diamond of the Crown. Tavernier is said to have been killed by wild dogs on his next trip to India. Surprisingly, Queen Maria Louisa of Spain wears a gem resembling the Hope in a portrait painted by Goya in 1800.
