He later got a job at the Swiss Patent office in Bern. He met and married Mileva Maric Einstein. They got married at Bern City Hall on January 6, 1903. He was 24. She was 28. Albert Einstein’s married life was not too great, he had to work six days a week at the Patent office and his free time he worked on his physics theories. Mileva had to quit her job so she could stay home. She lost her daughter earlier in her life before she met Albert. So she had to cope with the loss of her daughter and her career. Before their second anniversary, in 1905, the Nobel Prize was not awarded to Einstein, which was a big reminder to Mileva that she had once wanted a career. They did have two kids together; Hans Albert and Eduard. Einstein moved his family to Prague. In 1912 they moved back, but not so happily. When they moved back Einstein had a new, "friend" his cousin, Elsa Löwenthal. On Albert Einstein’s 34th birthday Mileva did not show up, her friends were getting worried so they went over to her house and her face was badly bruised and swollen. In 1914 Albert took a job in Berlin where Elsa Löwenthal lived, Mileva resisted to go. When Einstein leaves for Berlin in April he left a very long list of rules for Mileva which included, "You must answer me at once when I speak to you."
