...aware of the potential hazards, but we sometimes forget to temper our advice with counsel to use common sense, but to remember that we can't protect our children (regardless of their number of legs) completely against life, and the time must come when they'll need to learn their own lessons by experience. It's really hard being a parent, isn't it? Avram, I feel your pain. Tuesday January 11, 2005 # Baby Tigers Rescued in N. C. News 14 Carolina reported the rescue of two lost baby tigers Sunday, found roaming a rural mountain road near Kings Mountain, N.C. The cubs were taken to separate shelters, pending the location of their owner. No one has come forth yet to claim them, possibly because keeping wild animals is unlawful in that area. The accompany video shows a comparatively docile 70 pound Bengal cub (dubbed Sheba by the shelter officials.) Lest this news inspire you to get your own tiger, be forewarned: they eat a LOT, and you'd be much happier with a smaller cat. If you long for the look of the wild, try one of the domestic breeds with the Look of the Wild. Tuesday January 11, 2005 # Cats Community Corner:- Guest Writers' Forum The Community Corner features expert articles and opinions from other people who share a passion for cats and their welfare. Since opinions are diverse and no one has all the answers, this format encourages a broad scope of information to be shared on the subject of cats. This site has been enriched by the contributions of professional writers, such as Jim Willis, Michelle Bernard, and Kari Winters, as well as articles and advice from such knowledgeable people as Holly Webber and Colleen Patrick, and others too numerous to mention. I've grouped these marvelous articles together, under "You and Your Cat > Community Forum," truly a bookmark-worthy link. Monday January 10, 2005 # Tips for Choosing Cat Food Lately, I've been horrified at stories I hear by email and on the forum, at the kind of junk food some people still feed their cats. You are what you eat, and this is equally true for the cats that depend on us for "room and board." Indeed, cat food is one of the most important expenses of feline guardianship, next to veterinary care. If you've allowed your cat to become a "junk food junkie," or you know someone who has, this article will take you back to the basics. After reading it, move on to the next in the series: "Understanding Cat Food Labels," which gives you the formulas you need to put your new knowledge to use. Better yet, enroll in my email class, "The Role of Food in Your Cat's Health," which is delivered weekly. Monday January 10, 2005 # Product Tour of Litter Robot - Automated Litter Box Automated litter boxes are a boon to busy cat owners, especially to those with two or more cats, who would rather spend more time playing with their cats than scooping litter boxes. I have to admit being drawn by the cute R2-D2 appearance of the Litter Robot before I even saw it in action. For detailed information on how the Litter Robot performs, and my "bottom line" opinion, please read the linked review. Thursday January 06, 2005 # IFAW Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund The resent earthquake and subsequent tsunami devastation has touched the lives of almost everyone, as we sit, horrified, and read or watch the news of mind-numbing numbers of lives lost. We know that those numbers translate into real humans: parents who mourn children lost, children wandering the streets, searching for their parents, and visitors from all over the world who have lost loved ones. Those of us involved in animal welfare also feel sorrow and compassion for the pets and other animals affected by this disaster. The highly-respected IFAW (the International Fund for Animal Welfare) is asking for donations to help their rescue efforts in the affected areas. Even a small donation will help provide food, veterinary care, and/o...
