Book Report: The Second Summer of the Sisterhood
...about herself. Carmen had more problems with her family in this book, but this time it was with her mother. Everything was changing for Carmen really fast and she had a very hard time handling it. This was a very life-changing summer for all four of the girls. Most of the characters in this book were very well rounded. They had problems to deal with, but they were happy and had fun too. The only exception was Carmen. Carmen seemed really sad and depressed all the time. She never really had a lot of fun. I really liked how Tibby became more confident in herself and became a little more outgoing than she was in the last book. Lena was sad in the beginning, but became happier as it went on. Bridget was my favorite character in the first book and she is still my favorite in the second. I like how she’s outgoing and always goes for what she wants. She’s never afraid to say what’s on her mind and I think that’s a good quality to have. All of the different settings of the story were important because there was a different, specific reason for the girls to be where they were. Bridget was in Alabama to see her grandmother and she also saw the old friends she used to have there. This was important because she learned more about her history and her mother. Lena went to Greece and that was important because she saw Kostos again, who was a main part of her story. Tibby was in Virginia to go to her film program, which is where she learned a lot about herself. Carmen was living with her mother, with whom she was having problems with throughout the story. If the girls had been anywhere else, all of their stories would have been different, so the settings they were in had a very big impact on the book. I think that one of the big themes of this novel is to be who you are. When Bridget went to Alabama, she disguised herself because she didn’t want her grandma to know who...
