...ace and intrigue that were so evident in it's nature. Another portrayal of witchcraft, I found in the novel The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Although this portrayal of a Goddess religion was more true to witchcraft than, "The Craft," it was set in the time of Camelot and King Arthur, which is a history that I cannot relate to my modern lifestyle. The excerpt from Starhawks novel brought witchcraft to my immediate attention; It has now become tangible for the first time. Our attention to the Goddess Religion this week has given me a whole new perspective because I have found insight into a new and powerful reality. So much can be done to give back to the Earth from which we came. I was raised in a Jewish household, my mother is Jewish and my father is a non-practising Catholic. I have always felt very conflicted about my personal relationship to Judaism, and to G-d, who has brought the Hebrew language to my lips in service. I never questioned wether or not I believed in all of this as a child, but every year I grow strangely distant from my faith. As abstraction pulls my faith from my perspective, I grow further away from home. While reading these two chapters, I found comfort in a reality which brought my already curious nature for the Earth to life. To revel in what I feel most blessed about and a chance to feel calm in the face of anxiety and depression. I trust the Earth to balance my whole self. I believe that as children, and throughout most of childhood, humans should be introduced to the Goddess Religion. Wether it be alone, or in accordance with information about other religions. I feel very strongly that although the human tradition of religion is very important, it is also very important to teach children openness and the responsiblity to always be open to change. But, in this case, I feel as though at such a curious and imaginative stage of life, to bask in the light of the earth would promote a peaceful upbringing which could be lost otherwise. On October fourth, our class spoke of the seasons, of the elements, of color, of times of day, of waves of emotions, of the life cycle, and of the directions.
