...d speak to the actor. Without the chorus the audience wouldn’t be able to understand the play. The Chorus entered from the two paradoi in three rows of five people and they formed little squares between them. The chorus was called by different names for each type of play. In a tragedy it was called Emmelia and in a comedy it was funny and called Codrax, in a Satyr play it was called Sicinnis. Early Greek plays only had one actor but later writers added a second then third actor, all actors were men, even men played female parts (it was usually young boys who played female parts due to their high voices, but in order to look taller and more impressive they wore cothornous, which were wooden shoes with high heels, they were also dressed in robes with vertical stripes) . All actors wore masks which showed their expressions this was mainly because the theatre was so big that having a mask made it easier for the audience to see what was happening, many mask changes were made during the play, to show different emotions. The members of the chorus wore masks, mostly looking similar to each other but were completely different from the actors.
