In "The legend of Gregorio Cortez," he proves his bravery by standing up to the town sheriffs after he had shot the head sheriff. Cortez was on his way to his mothers house to bury his brother, when at the edge of town, he ran into about twenty sheriffs. Cortez was too caught up on burying his brother that he just rode past the sheriffs. Sometime in the 1800s, Cortez faced many problems that led him to stick up for what he believed in, and fought for what he thought was right. Running from eh sheriff and the death of his brother, shows the bravery that Cortez goes through when he rides past the villagers on the edge of town. Cortez was the best at hiding his tracks when trying to buy time. While he was being followed by the villagers, he didn't get caught because he used hi own strategies. Cortez didn't shoot the sheriff right away because he didn't want to get arrested until he buried his brother which also explains why he had to be brave, and run from the villagers. The quote "A coward turns away, but a brave mans choice is danger" fits this story because, Cortez is the brave man that is taking what is meant to come his way, whether it could hurt him, or not.
