Business leadership roles have changed drastically with the advent of the team-managed organizational structure. Joe Schultz stated in his article Management by Teams, “leadership techniques that applied years ago do not apply anymore”. ... A new focus of businesses utilizing teams/leadership to make the changes, in order to offer a better service or product, is the new business trend of the 21st century. Team-managed organizational structures have been found to be successful in the small business arena, and a new impetus in team management is forcing larger organizations to take a second look at this oft-maligned organizational style. ... The economy was booming during the Clinton years and advances in personal and business information technology paved the way for a more global approach to business.
