Galileo showed no interest in medicine but he showed a great interest in mechanics and philosophy. He left Pisa without a degree. In 1610 he was nominated Mathematician of the University of Pisa. He researched thermometry, magnetism, astronomy, and mechanics. As he experimented in mechanics he built a thermoscope, geometrical compass, military compass, microscope, and also the telescope. The telescope was the most famous of all of his inventions. With this telescope Galileo could see the moon, discovered the four moons of Jupiter, observed supernova, verified phases of Venus, and he also discovered sunspots. Galileo stated that the universe was heliocentric and that proved the Copernican system. Father Tommaso Caccini disagreed with these new ideas.
