Suffering Death and Ressurection
... and die for us in payment for our sins. He died to restore the relationship with God. At nine o’clock in the morning, Jesus was crucified. Three hours later at noon the whole country was covered in darkness for three hours, then at three o’clock Jesus cried out “Eloi, Eloi, lema Sabachthani.” Some people heard him crying out, “Listen, He is calling for Elijah!” An army officer standing in front of the cross said “This man really was the Son of God.” This again shows why Christians believe why Jesus died for us. The suffering and death of Jesus are completed through his resurrection. The fact that he rose to be in Heaven with his father is what most Christians strongly believe in today as they pray to him for guidance throughout their lives. The triumph over his suffering and death is most clearly displayed in the resurrection, and will always be remembered by Christians today. AO2: Explain how the suffering death and resurrection of Jesus might make a difference in the everyday lives of Christian believers today. The message that Jesus gave to us is still very relevant although we live in a completely different world to the one Jesus lived in. Jesus’ resurrection in particular really effects people’s lives today because it guarantees them that there is a heaven and hell, it gives us hope. I think this because if there were no Heaven and Hell, I don’t think that the world would be the place it is today, It would be out of control. The resurrection of Jesus changes the way we behave because if we did behave badly we would go to hell; this is what we believe about Heaven and Hell. I also think that we should behave well, not badly because Jesus died for us, and I think that we should behave in return. Jesus’ resurrection confirms and completes the vocation of Jesus, which is to bring people back to God. The forgiveness of sins opens the gates of heaven for those who chose to listen. Jesus’ resurrection also helps us because, if we experience a difficult time in life, which everyone will, it gives us faith. Jesus’ resurrection also gives us something to look forward to, life after death. It focuses us on what is important in life, love, friendship etc. It can also inspire people to acts of great sacrifice; an example of this is Oscar Romero. Individuals often become heroes because of the extraordinary courage they demonstrate. A strong determination to do what is right, true, and just became a guiding principle for Archbishop Oscar Romero. He demanded peace, He informed the world about all the people who had been tortured, slaughtered, and of those who had "disappeared" in his country, El Salvador. Jesus’ resurrection also assures us of God’s love for us. In a Christian’s life today, Jesus is as alive as he was then. Part of the suffering and death of Jesus is that all Christians will be judged, there are three places we can go Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. Where we will spend eternity is dependant on that judgement. The suffering, death and resurrection makes a big difference in the everyday lives of Christian believers today due to all of the reasons shown above. AO3: ‘Dying...
