Advantages and Disadvantages of the Civil War

They were equipped with better weapons and greater food production along with ample and efficient transportation, including to the West. Southern advantages include familiar surroundings and excellent leadership. Much of the Civil War was fought in the South, so the South had a “home field’ advantage. They were an out door oriented population because many farms were owned in the South. They were equipped with an excellent cavalry throughout the entire war. But most importantly, the South didn’t have to win they just had to hold the North off, or force a “stalemate.” Some of the disadvantages for the North were the contrasts to the South’s advantages. This includes unfamiliar surroundings, because much of the war was fought in the Southern states and in the wilderness. Also there was political disunity, mainly from “Copperheads,” who were people who did not agree with Abraham Lincoln or the war, but for the most part the North was united. But, unlike the Southern “stalemate” plan, the North had to win. Some Southern disadvantages include a smaller population and many money problems. With a small population and little money, the South was already at a major disadvantage from the start. They had much fewer factories and no real navy that helped out in the fight. Also, compared to the North, the South had limited European support because they were pro-slavery and most of Europe was anti-slavery. What if the tables had turned and the South had some of the North’s advantages? The South lost the Civil War, but I believe if the South had a larger population and more money, it would have been a closer war. With a large number of people, there is a greater number of people who would be willing to fight. Had the South been equipped with more money and a greater population, the war could have lasted a lot longer for the South or even better for they could have won it. The North won the war...
