Astronomy is a proven science that looks at all elements of the solar system to help determine physical events such as when night and day will occur, and/or when it is best to harvest crops. Conversely, astrology has never been scientifically proven, and therefore is similar to a religious belief. It is said to study the planets and stars to identify a person’s own future events as well his/her personality. The events that are identified by astronomy will pertain to a group of people in a specific region; whereas, astrology’s finding vary from person to person. Because Astronomy is a physical science it is necessary for theories and concepts support all proven facts. • This is best illustrated by examining Ptolemaic and heliocentric theories. When the solar system was established as a Sun-centered universe, all information based on the Ptolemaic theory needed to be discarded; however, because astrology was not factual-based, it did not need to change any of its principles. As a result, astrology’s current philosophies match that of what was used when the solar system was said to be Earth-centered. • For instance, the zodiac was originally believed to have 12 constellations; however, in recent years the science of astronomy discovered that there were actually 13 constellations.
