...orange roses and yellow daisies tenderly placed on the shields of soldiers standing at attention. They have fought with kindness, smiles, and good manners. They have fought with music and dancing in the streets. They have fought with determination and confidence that truth would win. And why? The Orange Revolution has cried out for the voice of the people to be heard. The recent presidential elections were plagued with fraud, trickery, and deceit. The people have demanded that honesty, truth, and openness prevail. And tonight—that voice has been heard for the first time. The Supreme Court has ruled in agreement with what the Western world has already reported. The elections were fraudulent making them invalid. They will have to be redone in a few weeks. The people have won a small battle in the major war! After living in Ukraine for 11 years, my heart has hurt with the majority. I have followed the news through internet and on local television (by the way, this is a great way to increase your understanding of Ukrainian!!) My eyes have filled with tears as I watched the 100’s of thousands of Ukrainians flooding the area of “Independence Square”, dressed in orange scarves, hats, ribbons, join in one voice to sing the National Anthem of Ukraine. “The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not perished yet.
