A Visit of Charity
...r a matter of time. This is why you always hear about someone who is always angry in a nursing home. I would probably be angry too, if they put me in there without my consent. We all know that Marian hated the smells and didn’t really come there for charity, but for the points she was to receive at her church or at her school. She didn’t have a really pleasant visit with the old ladies either. However, this wasn’t solely her fault. The old lady who was covered to her chin with the blanket was being very mean to the other and this couldn’t have helped matters for Marian. In the end she leaves and takes the apple she hid in the prickly shrub and gets on the bus. There are several important lessons from this reading. It reminds us that our actions toward irritable people will show us how charitable we are and that we should be nice to the elderly because many of them are unpleasant. And it’s unfair to blame Marian for not being excited to see the old ladies because everyone at one point in their lives has done something to show an insensitive attitude, especially during childhood.
