...on on Liang’s view on Chinese beliefs: “..the world of the Chinese traditionalist was a world of dreams...” . Liang’s extreme ideas began when he first realized how China’s status in the world had dwindled from once mighty powerful empire to what was then. Liang believed that if his people wished to maintain and acquire security, richness and power ,one must “.. adopt what is originally lacking in the people.” . Liang especially favored the idea of complementing the “holes” in Chinese tradition with Western ideas and vice versa, as quoted, “…develop our civilization with that of the West and to supplement Western civilization with ours…” . In other words, the ingredients to form a “new better civilization” as Liang suggested was to rebuild it with only the perfect components from others. These mixtures of Western and Chinese ideas were the building blocks of “new perfect civilization”. [As Confucius said]: “If one wants a job well done, he must first sharpen his tools.” With the introduction of Western ideas to the Chinese traditions, Liang Qichao continued his struggle by confirming that “all phenomena in the world are governed by no more than two principles: the conservative and the progressive” .
