Romeo’s parents are supportive, leaving the decisions and happiness for him to find, since he’s the only one, which can make himself happy. They don’t know what he wants or don’t know what Romeo feels. “ He, his own affections’ counselor, Is to himself I to himself will not say how true- But to himself so secret so close, So far from discovery.”(1.1.144-147) Juliet’s parents, on the other hand, plan her entire life, with no input of Juliet’s feelings into it. Their main focus is on the Capulet image, instead of her happiness. “This night you shall behold him at our feast, Read o’er the volume of young paris’ face, And delight writ there with beauty’s pen” (1.3.81-83) Friend’s opinions and advice also has an important impact on people, especially Shakespeare’s two lovers. Throughout the play, Romeo’s friends continually feed him with their wretched thoughts, whether a joke or recommendation; and Juliet seeks much help, as the nurse is involved in every decision she can make.
