...ion of the American people and government in the cold war times. Everyone is wound so tight that they automatically assume that the visitor has come to harm them. When the alien escapes his American captors the public completely loses it. Radio announcers and newspapers begin with simply stating that the “alien menace” has escaped. The reports quickly twist into “the alien menace must be destroyed”. The US government no longer wants to recapture the alien to study it and find out about its people, now they are out for the aliens blood. Not only does this reflect the tension of the cold war generation, it reflects human’s nature to be violent and panic. It is our nature to be afraid of what is unknown or different. Often we respond with aggression and violence when confronted by the unknown. This film is perfect example of that. There are heavy implications that if humanity does not mellow out and change our violent and destructive ways that we will be our own undoing. We are all so suspicious of each other that we are all terrified of each other. We are so insecure and nervous that we are ready to lash out violently at the smallest provocation. The alien race is kept in check by enforcer robots. The robots keep the peace. This system would work because the robots are not biased and would stick to logic. The robots would not play favorites and could not become corrupt. They would stick to their programs. Just so long as the programs were well designed, this system could work beautifully.
