...s are produced most cheaply in countries such as India or China, people are thinking twice about this sort of trade. The United States is basically trading US jobs for cheap goods and services. There are two sides to the story. The first is looking at the individuals who are directly effected. The other side is looking at the economy as a whole and seeing what is best for the United States economy. Estimates place the number of U.S. service workers whose jobs have been outsourced over the past three years between 250,000 and 500,000. Although that’s a relatively small number compared to the total number of jobs, it has devastating effects on thousands of family’s who lose their jobs. For instance, when a company decides to move just 500 jobs to India, that is 500 hard-working individuals who lose their jobs and can no longer support their families. It’s very tough to tell them that the outsourcing of those jobs was ultimately a good thing. The other side is the positive benefits for the U.S. economy as a whole. By outsourcing labor, American companies are able to reduce their expense thereby creating larger profits which can be used for higher salaries for US worke...
