Why The Liberals introduced reforms
...monitor the health of the nations young. The reason the liberals were so concerned about the health of the young was because these were to become the next generation of workforce and soldiers so this act was here to help the upkeep of the young and national efficiency. The next major group of people that were in great need of help were the Old. The main problem was that when the poverty stricken people were coming towards the age of retirement they had barely no money saved away to keep themselves going till their death. This was because they had only just had money to keep themselves barely fed while working. So what happened was that when they retired they would have to rely on family members to keep them or they would have to beg to get money to stay alive, or the very last choice would be the workhouse where they would have to work hard little money and this is where they would die. So the liberals solution to this was the old age pensions act which was a non contributory scheme but was still paid for by the taxpayer. And it was paid to the over seventies and paid to them with an income less than £ 31 a year. This was designed to help the old poor people keep themselves in good condition seen as they had worked hard all there lives. By far the most needy cause was the working man because if there problems were resolved then in theory the other problems with the young and the old would be resolved too. Some of the major acts that were brought in were the trade Boards act of 1909 where a minimum wage was set up in sweated industries these were the industries where they worked long hours for little money. So this was resolved with a minimum wage which would hopefully help the poor by giving them the money they deserve for the hard work they do. The other major act to help the poor working man was the national insurance act which had 2 parts one for health which was where you the employee paid a certain amount your employer paid in an amount and so did the state. And this was here for if you were ill and couldn’t pay for medical treatment. And the second part was unemployment insurance where the same applied but was there for if you were out of work and looking for another job. ...
