The Silver Maple/Photosynthesis
...e of the cells would look like. Another characteristic, is that all living things reproduce. The Silver Maple tree reproduces asexually, which means they can reproduce without mating. Because the tree reproduces asexually, then all the traits of its offspring are equivalent. This brings me to the next characteristic, which is all living things are based on a universal genetic code. The next characteristic is that all living things grow and develop. The silver maple tree goes through mitosis, which is when the cells form and divide, making new cells for mature organisms. Differentiation is when cells are formed that look different, and perform different functions. This also happens over time. All Living things also need materials for energy. The Maple tree absorbs sunlight to make energy. This process is called Photosynthesis. Also, all living organisms respond to their environment. On the tree, more moss grew in the areas that weren’t blocked from the sun, so much by the trees. The sunlight helped the moss grow better, unlike the shade, where there didn’t seem to have as much moss growing around it. And the last characteristic is all living organisms maintain an internal balance. The organism keeps a certain temperature in order to survive. This is called homeostasis. Although the tree is surrounded by two trees, it still receives a lot of sun light in order to live. The climate varies from time to time. It changes with t seasons. The Maple tree doesn’t bloom until the warmer seasons, Spring and Summer. It also needs a lot of water, which the grass could help provide through the soil. Animals in the environment eat grass or leaves from the tree. The animals then produce respiration, which makes CO2 in the atmosphere that keeps every living thing alive. All of the living...
