Eveline’s decision

She gets “palpitations” (15) because she is so afraid of her own father. He gave her hard times when her older brothers left home. In this situation, I think she became tired from her life, and therefore she wanted to change her life. Her life was miserable, until she met Frank. He was a sailor, and a very nice guy. He used to see her at her work and take her out. Unfortunately, her father didn't like Frank that much, which led her to meet Frank secretly. Frank wanted to take Eveline to Buenos Ayres, Frank's home, and marry her there. When she was with Frank, she lived some moments that she never dreamed of until she met him. This was the only chance that she had to get away from her family and other situations. “He would give her life, perhaps love, too. But she wanted to leave. Why should she be unhappy? She had the right to happiness. Frank would take her in his arms. He would save her” (20). This decision was important to her life; she could change her whole life if she left with him. However, she chooses not to leave with her lover Frank. Since her mother died, she kept her mother promise to”keep the home together as long as she could” (6). I partially agree with Eveline’s decision to keep her mother’s promise and not to leave with Frank to start her own life. It is very difficult to make a decision between two important matters, like Eveline’s with her family and Frank. It depends on the family and love situation ...
